What the fuck am I supposed to put as my political party on my voter registration form?
If I put no party preference, does that prevent me from voting for certain parties? If I put something else, does that restrict me to that party?
I consider myself to be a pretty intelligent human being, so I now understand why lazy people don’t vote. Help please.

It does prevent you from voting in primaries of a party you don’t identify with, but it does not stop you from voting for anyone come general election time.

I don’t think it prevents you from anything. You can identify as one (or no) party and still favor a contender for the other in any given election. Plus I believe it’s—to use a very childish phrase—“secret ballot,” so no one would know either way.
